Check out our friend, Robin Bond and her upcoming clinic!!
Robin is located in San Marcos, CA.
Robin Bond has been training professionally since 1993. After spending 22 years in jumping, dressage and combined training, Robin set her sights on western events. Her experience now includes trail, reining, reined cowhorse, ranch horse versatility, and extreme cowboy racing.

Robin is currently focused on breeding and training an all around horse that can take his rider from an exacting ranch riding class, to a trail class at speed, and finish by working a cow in a sorting, penning, or ranch roping environment.

It is important to take the horse’s natural physical strengths into consideration when working in any discipline, but what makes a good all around ranch horse, and a good EXCA horse, starts with a good temperament, a sturdy structure, and a willing mind.

In order to create a good EXCA mount, Robin draws on knowledge gleaned from all disciplines. Her background in reining puts a good stop and spin on a horse. Her dressage experience helps makes transitions and lead changes correct. Jumping and trail skills teach correct approaches and technique over obstacles. Reined cowhorse work puts as good of a handle on a horse as you can get. Lastly, combined training adds speed to obstacles and develops well founded confidence. All of these techniques have been learned through years of study followed by practical application. Professional riders such as Ted Robinson, Todd Crawford, George Morris, Tad Coffin, Buck Brannaman, and Sandy Arledge have influenced Robin’s training methods. Add it all together and you get Robin’s approach to horse training for the all around western horse.

Robin taught, managed and trained for ten years at Sandy Arledge’s award winning quarter horse ranch. She has won the coveted Open Bridle class at San Francisco’s Cow Palace, Del Mar National’s Sliding contest, NRCHA’s Limited Open Bridle World Champion Top Ten, 2009 EXCA Pomona Reserve Champion, 2009 EXCA World Champion Top Three, and 2010 EXCA Pomona Champion. She currently trains at Deer Springs Equestrian in San Marcos, California.

The Extreme Cowboy Race as designed by Craig Cameron is the ultimate test of the Western all around horse, and Robin looks forward to promoting this fast growing equine event to the benefit of horse enthusiasts everywhere.

What is the Get Down or
"Git Down" Rope
Many working cowboy ranches embrace the traditions of the Old West Vaqueros. These cowboy ranches use traditional Vaquero horse tack and teach the Vaquero ways of horse training and horsemanship.

In keeping with this traditional Vaquero style, the Get Down Rope has become popular with not only the old west working cowboy ranches, but casual riders who are following the Vaquero style.

The "Git Down Rope " is also very popular in the competitive ranch classes at rodeos and horse shows. These horse competitions demand the use of this rope, as well as the Bosalito.

The traditional cowboys used the “git” down rope to keep their horse standing still while they “git” down to shut the gate, pick something up, or have a few biscuits by the campfire.

Today, the Get Down Rope is used in the same way, especially in training young horses to stand still. The Get Down Rope is mostly used under a bridle bit set up.  It is never desirable to lead with reins.  When you have a “Git Down Rope”, you have a lead rope.  A Get Down Rope is not designed to tie up with.

The Get Down Rope is used in place of a halter and is easy to use.  To learn the proper way to attach the old west “git” down rope and how to adjust for a proper, comfortable fit for your horse, watch our video below.

The Get Down Rope consists of a Bosalito or Caveson. a light Bosal hanger, and a 16-18' Get Down Rope. Ropes are made out of alpaca, horse hair and marine yacht rope. Buckaroo Leather has just the Get Down Rope, in several colors, or the rope with the Bosal and hanger.

Customer Spotlights
Hi John,

I did not forget my promise to send you a review and a picture of my horse. Attached is a photo of my favorite horse, Jewel, wearing my favorite sidepull. Thank you so much for sending me the concha.

I absolutely LOVE my sidepull! I don't ride my horses in anything else and I love its versatility. It fits all of my horses and is so much easier to adjust than a traditional bridle with a bit. Not only is the product fabulous, the customer service is amazing!

I highly recommend any of Buckaroo Leather's products.

Thank you!
Katherine Mason

I placed several orders since I discovered Buckaroo Leather, and each order was beyond expectation. Most recently, I ordered a breast collar and headstall....just a perfect fit and match for my new mare! Quality of the products is top notch! John provides excellent customer service and always responds to questions in a very timely manner. Buckaroo Leather is definitely one of my favorite places to shop for tack!!

I bought a beautiful classic martingale type breast collar with basket stamp tooling, and a vintage style cavalry brass heart at the center. The leather is soft and supple, and in spite of being brand new, feels well broken in. Very nice quality. The tooling is clean and clear, and stitching straight and even. Shipping was very quick as well. I can't say enough good things about this company. Customer for life!
-Kristy Krause-Emerson

John went above and beyond to get a custom draft size sidepull to me...quick! And its beautiful and great quality!!
