Mounted Shooting a Family Affair
|
You might say the Lawson family has made Cowboy Mounted Shooting the "family business"!! Kenny Lawson of Silver Dollar Ranch, his wife Leann and three of their children Rylee, Dylan and Madi are all involved in horse training and Cowboy Mounted Shooting. Dylan even beat his dad in a recent shooting event!!!. Rylee, too just won CMSA Major-Ladies Level 2
Division.
It is exciting to see these youths have such passion and drive!! Congrats to Leann and Kenny for fostering their passion!!!!

Buckaroo Leather is proud to be apart of the Silver Dollar Ranch family! We our honored to have Kenny and the whole family not only endorse but use Buckaroo Leather's Saddle and Horse Tack.

The Lawson family is also involved in the Valley Center Vaqueros. They are a family oriented equestrian club with activities for all ages. The Vaqueros have hosted a wide variety of shows, clinics, and equine events since 1960. In addition, our Young Riders (under 18) and our Drill Posse (18+) participate in community events and parades across Southern California.
In 2011, the
Vaqueros formed a non-profit: the Valley Center Vaqueros Equine Education Foundation. Our goal is to improve horsemanship skills, enhance equine care, and increase public awareness through education. The Vaqueros wish to expose our lifestyle to those with no access to horse culture, and to provide after school programs for children not currently involved in traditional athletics.

Body Language

Body Language
by Farah DeJohnette
I decided to revisit natural body language again because in the class we just did this past month, it proved to be the thing people struggled with the most along with developing a sense for the bio-mechanics in themselves and their horses. Body language is a part
of not only our relationship on the ground but also our mounted relationship.
We started by exploring the idea that Body language starts with Energetic Inflection in the horse and the person. As we learn to become more Self Aware and Listen to our horses, We become much more tuned in to what we are really saying beyond movement, gestures and tools. I also
defined the difference between man made Body Language versus Body Language and Cues which are Innate to all horses. Truly Natural Language is already in the horse. When we learn it,there is no need to train a conditioned response. We only need to Communicate well!

Light Hands
Cowboy Dressage
|
Light Hands
It is not about the bosal - It
is about the light hand! “People ask about so-called "nerve knots" on the bosal. These nerve knots are always "on" and become pressure points of discomfort for the horse. With a correctly sized, fitted and adjusted bosal, very little movement of the mecate reins is necessary to send clear communication. As a result, the nose button does not travel too much. The fulcrum is working and balanced properly. Potential pressure is spread out since bosal pressure/weight is not condensed on a small
area on the horse's nose creating tender spots. Braces and avoidance issues are minimized and a positive communication foundation can be built in the hackamore on the journey to the bridle horse.” For this reason the Cowboy Dressage horse should be ridden from back to front toward the rider's hand with Light contact. Happy Trails!

Move Around Horse Tie System
|
The Move Around is a revolutionary horse tie system. Made of high quality aircraft aluminum, this tie system allows for 360 degree movement of your horse.
What it is: *1 strong lightweight aluminum construction rotating unit *8 stainless steel set screws and one allen wrench *A 2 7/8 schedule 40 galvanized pipe, sold separately (from home improvement store or fencing company), on which to mount the Move Around System. We suggest a 12 foot pole, as the pole should be placed in cement at a four foot ground depth, leaving 8 feet of pole height
above the ground. It is recommended that a cap be placed on top of the pole to prevent it from rusting.
Why is the Move Around the best system on the market? *Strong, simple design with no mechanical parts that can break down or require maintenance *Strong, lightweight aluminum will not rust *Low cost *Easy
installation--each component simply slips over the mounted pipe and tightens in place with the set screws *Unlike any other item on the market, this system is adjustable and can also be converted to a tie point that does not move and rotate if desired.
