New Saddle at Buckaroo Leather

Are you looking for a light weight quality ranch saddle that will not break your wallet???

Buckaroo Leather has found a gem of a light weight saddle. It is a Diamond M Wade Saddle, designed by McCall saddles for Diamond M. This saddle is not only light weight, less than 24lbs, but durable and tough. It is comfortable for both horse and rider and it is easy to saddle.

This saddle feels like a feather compared to other Wades! This ranch saddle uses a new Kevlar Tree. This innovative tree is made from foam and E-Glass creating a light weight and Extremely strong Tree! What is Kevlar? Kevlar fibers are 43 percent lighter than typical fiberglass, 10-times stronger than aluminum, and literally five-times stronger than steel.

Horse Trainer
Mark Rashid

Mark Rashid is an internationally acclaimed horse trainer known for his ability to understand the horse’s point of view and solve difficult problems with communication rather than force.

He began working with horses at age ten, when he met the “old man,” who taught him to work with horses, not against them, and to listen to what the horse is trying to say.

Mark’s clinics center on one-on-one work with horse and rider and are immensely popular with people around the world. When Mark decided to study the martial art of aikido as a way to improve his horsemanship, he brought the same quiet determination to it that he exhibits in his work with horses.

His next clinic is

Aug. 8-18
 Littleton, CO

Mark also has a blog. Below is the latest entry.

To Walk the Walk

During a Q/A during one of our recent clinics, an auditor asked if there were any of the current trainers or clinicians out there today that I admire or follow on a regular basis. I explained that there were many horsemen and women that I admire, but not many that I follow.Let me explain. When I was very young and just getting into horses, I had the great honor of working with a man who I feel was the finest horseman I have ever met. Watching him work with a horse was like watching someone perform magic, especially for a young and impressionable boy, which is what I was back then. But even back then, and setting his amazing skills with horses aside, I realized there was an intangible quality to him that was not only very special, but that I just assumed was inherent in everybody who worked with horses. He had a way about him that could put both animals and people at ease just by him being near – a quiet confidence, free of ego, that assured everything was going to be okay, even when it seemed as though maybe it wouldn’t be – and a true kindness that seemed to permeate all that he did and all that he came in contact with. It wasn’t really so much what he did, however, but who he was, and at least for me, that was the key.

The Articulate Rider
by Farah DeJohnette

The Articulate Rider
by Farah Dejohnette

First of all I want to share how awesome, fun and good for ours and our horses bodies and minds the Yoga for Humans and Equines class was. It was the first of it’s kind at Ohana farm and it wont be the last judging from all the feedback we got. Kate Perna brought excellent body awareness exercises for riders and mindfulness exercises that put us in a good mind body connection for working with our horses in the second part of the day.

We explored mindful movements with our horses bodies to find where they might be blocked and need to release. Then we rode using our new found seat and body awareness. I added a new section called “Seat Yoga” which explored even further the articulations that we can do with our bodies, pelvis and back. One participant who worked with her Prix St. George horse in the class, stated she had one of the best rides she had ever had on her horse that day after experiencing the feeling of being “plugged in” and connected while riding.

What I am working towards in these body awareness exercises is what I call an Articulate Rider. A lot of riding and communication I see with horses is Loud and Crude. Even when a horse is being “difficult” it is usually due to us communicating vaguely, loudly and opposite to what we are really asking. When a horse doesn’t comply with a request, he gets “Shouted at” Literally, Physically and figuratively. An Articulate Rider not only possesses fine control of their Energetic Inflection, they also have fine control over their bodies individual parts and as a whole.
