This month we would like to announce something a little different and very special. Buckaroo Leather is honored to sponsor Maddie Siler in the 2023 Teens and Oregon Mustangs Trainer Showdown. Maddie got to pick up her Mustang on December 2nd, and she will be sharing monthly updates and photos with us as she progresses. Best of luck, Maddie!

"My name is Maddie Siler, and I am a trainer in the 2023 Teens and Oregon Mustang Trainer Showdown! Competing in a mustang makeover event has been my dream since I was in the 5th grade. Now ten years later, I am finally participating in my first mustang challenge! I am now a Junior at Central Oregon Community College in Bend, Oregon and am pursuing a degree in Nursing.

Teens and Oregon Mustangs is a mustang makeover event that pairs rounded-up Oregon mustangs with selected trainers. This winter’s challenge has two divisions, a riding division with older mustangs and an in-hand division for yearling mustangs. The competition takes place March 23rd to 26th in Albany, Oregon during the Northwest Horse Fair and Expo. This is a huge event, and the Trainer Showdown is a featured attraction! This year, there are over seventy competitors, and each has their own mustang that they will have worked with over the next four months to go from “wild to mild.” At the competition, I will be competing with my mare in the Trail class and the Halter and Handling class against other Riding Division competitors. The overall top ten will compete in the “Top 10 Showdown” where a five-minute freestyle pattern will be used to name the champions. The public is encouraged to join us in Albany and meet the horses up close and personal on the first three days before a public auction of all the competing mustangs will be held on Sunday, March 26^th.

My pick for the challenge is a three-year-old mare from Palomino Buttes HMA in Oregon. She has a ton of chrome and I’m super excited to meet her and see what we can accomplish together. Tag #7302 comes home the first week of December, and that is when the work begins! My mare will be one of those horses available to the public and looking for a new place to call home!

I am so excited and thankful to have Buckaroo Leather as a sponsor in this challenge. I’ve been a fan of Buckaroo Leather since I first got into horses eight years ago and having their support behind me in this mustang makeover feels like the perfect partnership.

"Hey John, just posted a review on your website. My horse is a "very tall for breed" registered Peruvian....just shy of 16 hands and 14 yrs. old. He's had a ported Peruvian bit in his mouth for years. As you can imagine, these bits can be really harsh in the hands of an inexperienced rider. I've used a rawhide bosal on occasion and he reacts well with that. However, your Farah de Janette bitless bridle has worked wonders on him. He reacts better with this setup than any bit or bosal. He truly loves the thing, as do I. I feel fortunate to have found it on your website. Unfortunately, I don't do Facebook or would have posted the pic there as well."
